De Winton, AB

The small settlement of De Winton is located in southern Alberta, about 25 kilometers south of downtown Calgary, just west of Macleod Trail. This rural, unincorporated area of the Municipal District of Foothills Number 31 covers more than 132 square kilometers of land, home to a population of about 2,000 people.

The village is named for Francis de Winton, a British army officer of the 19th century. A Royal Air Force pilot training school was located in De Winton during the Second World War, which today serves as the De Winton/South Calgary Airport. The community maintains its country atmosphere, filled with green farmland and some small bodies of water.
